Capital – Top 40 under 40 award for Jens-Philipp Jung

Jens-Philipp Jung, CEO and co-founder of Link11, has been named in the Top 40 under 40 award by business magazine Capital. The award ceremony took place in Berlin on November 17, 2023.

Since 2007, the Top 40 under 40 has been presented annually in four categories to managers, entrepreneurs, politicians, and exceptional talents under the age of 40 from science and society. The award winners now include over 1,000 top decision-makers who have made outstanding achievements in recent years.

Jens-Philipp Jung was selected from hundreds of candidates by a jury of experts due to his noteworthy contributions to the IT sector.

From a server in the trunk to a global security player

Jung came into the IT security industry via game server hosting. As a passionate gamer, he had the idea to host his own server and rent out parts of it instead of renting a server for his own team when he was at school. What began with his co-founder Karsten Desler as a simple cost compensation scheme quickly developed into a flourishing business with over 1,000 game servers.

During his studies, the company continued to grow organically: in addition to hosting game servers, the company developed its own network with over 2,000 servers. Its network was hit by several DDoS attacks in 2008/2009, which led to its transition from a hosting service to an IT security provider in the field of DDoS protection.

Instead of purchasing a solution, Link11 developed its own DDoS security protocol. As with its previous services, its excellent reputation spread quickly and helped the company win several customers. In 2020, the German Patent and Trademark Office granted Link11 a patent for its pioneering technology for defending against DDoS attacks.

Link11 is now a European IT security provider with almost 100 employees worldwide. The company protects more than 1,000,000 IP addresses and the volume of data secured by Link11 amounts to 20 percent of Google traffic (number of page views).

Jens-Philipp Jung sees the award as confirmation of Link11’s development:

“I am delighted to receive the award, which is symbol of dedication to our work and continuous development. Alongside Karsten Desler, I am lucky to have a team of employees and cybersecurity experts around me on whose tireless commitment, expertise and hunger for innovation our success is based. I am proud that we are helping to drive the development of cybersecurity with our solutions in an internationally underrepresented field and that this commitment is being recognized.”
